Learn the techniques used by our ancestors to build timber-frame structures.  You'll be taught by noted housewright P. David Richards, who will discuss materials and design considerations, and demonstrate the various types of joinery.  You'll measure, lay out, and cut the joints, as the class works together to construct and raise an actual timber frame structure on-site.  Some tools are required.  Call us for more information.

Wood Finishing

Excellent wood finishing results can be obtained using just a few tools and materials. You’ll learn the basic steps to get a fine finish, using varnish, shellac and oil on practice boards. You’ll also learn which brush or pad to use, and how to add color with stains, glazes and waxes. This is a one day intensive course with time for discussion.

Inlay – Bellflowers and Stringing

This workshop will explore many of the common details found in the Federal Period. Sand shaded bellflowers accent a tapered leg with banded cuffs and holly stringing. Working with gouges, trammel points and scratch stocks you’ll learn to create the timeless bellflower design while improving your bench skills.
