This course is specifically designed to prepare students for an entry-level woodworking position. Material covered will include the study of wood, learning to draw and read plans, the care, use and sharpening of hand tools, and the safe use and maintenance of machine tools. We will also cover joinery, project design, wood turning, veneering and wood bending. Each student will learn through a series of lessons and individual projects.

Hands-on Router Class

Bring your own router or use one of ours. This class is designed to help you get familiar with a router's parts, setup and use. We'll do a number of exercises and projects, and you will learn edge routing, inside and outside profiling, various methods of holding your workpiece and how to use a router table. Space is limited!

Join us for a new challenge in woodturning. Learn about end grain hollowing and shaping. Also learn how to use a chuck to hold your work piece and the sequences involved in completing a lidded box. As always, tool selection, sharpening and safety will be discussed.

Contracting Your Own Home

In this two-session class, Alan will give you an overview of what you need to know to be the building contractor for your own home or addition.  You'll learn about insurance requirements, how to hire the right subcontractors, and how to schedule and manage this project.  You'll leave with an understanding of building codes, permits, and the financial tradeoffs.  If you want to do it yourself, this class will save you money!

The Willow Sea Kayak Building Class

Build your own custom wooden sea kayak in this intensive one-week class. You will collaborate with other class members to ensure that a boat is completed for each student (or team, if you have a partner). Prior to this class, Bill will pre-glue planks to length and install sheer clamps, so that you’ll have adequate time to construct a kayak that’s ready to transport and finish.
